A Rant of Unreasoning Hatred

*Ahem*

Dear Reccers. If, by chance, you should happen upon a story that is 77 FUCKING CHAPTERS LONG, and tout it as a 'must-read' for all fans of this or that pairing or genre... kindly state in said rec whether the FUCKING THING IS A FUCKING WORK IN PROGRESS PLEASE!!!!!

Because on no account would I have saved this FUCKING url, or began reading such a FUCKING TOME if I had known that it was unfinished, and that the last update on it had been more than a year ago! I feel somewhat cheated by this outcome of affairs, frankly, because I know my self, and my reading/logging habits. The author is not one of my favorites, which means I got the link from a reccing source, and since I do not knowingly read WIPs without very specific parameters, this was just about like getting handed a really great book by a trusted friend, only to find that the last half of it had been torn out before printing, and the damned thing went to press anyhow!

So yeah. Betrayed is about how this feels, on a mild scale of betrayal. Especially since I've spent two FUCKING days reading this thing, when I COULD have been writing something else. AND FINISHING IT!!!

(To all of you Reccers who already DO note the completed vs WIP status of your recs, thank you. Please continue this courtesy, as it is very helpful in not making my head go all 'splodey at random intervals.)

I am with you! I NEVER read a WIP. EVER! I hate them hate them hate them. I won't post 'em and I won't read 'em. They are EVIL.

So, basically, I agree.
Totally agree. I've been caught a few times in very similar situations. Sometimes now I even go and look at the last chapter and see if it's the end or not. I try to avoid anything unfinished even by authors I love because you just never know what will happen.
IAWTC!!!!!! I almost never read WsIP no matter who is writing them. I can wait until the fic is finished.

As far as your fic, if it's the one I think it is, at one point it was being updated faithfully about once a week, so perhaps the reccer thought that would continue. However, since I'm more cynical, I bookmarked it and never started it. There is another author who is writing an ending for it so people have some closure, but I really can't comment on their ability to match the original author because I haven't read it. Though that person is updating regularly.

There are actually two in progress right now. Sadly, although the authors are attempting to continue the storyline, the writing styles just don't match that of the original author. Meh.
Oh, I only know of one. Could you leave a link for where both can be found? I know the author has some fic in The Sentinel fandom that also was completed after a large gap so perhaps one day he'll come back and finish this one.
***These are both WsIP***

I'm not reccing anything here, just providing links. I'm still really crabby over the original being abandoned.
Thanks! I appreciate the links.
It was The Marriage Stone, which was good enough to warrant finishing... IF the damned thing had been finished!
Yeah, that's what I thought. I know the author also wrote some fics in The Sentinel fandom and there were long gaps until the the work was finished, but he did eventually finish them. Perhaps that will happen here as well. *shrugs* It's a shame, really, but I read too slowly to ever want to spend the time reading something unfinished no matter how well-written.
;-) My sympathies (though I sampled that one long ago and didn't keep reading because (a) it was a WIP and (b) since it was on the Pit of Voles, I knew there'd be no smut :-)) - I don't like bait and switch of any sort, even if it's unintentional (as I'd bet it was in this case - it usually is, with recs - people forget or don't think others will mind).
I suddenly feel vindicated. All those years of meticulously noting WsIP and being so cautious of reccing them...Years ago I made a post outlining The State of My Bookmarked WsIP, and the ratios were pretty bad. I shudder to think what it would be now.

Seventy-seven chapters sounds PAINFULLY long for no payoff! What fandom was this in, out of curiosity?
It was a Harry Potter fic, called The Marriage Stone. And it was good enough to warrant the length, but I still wish I'd never begun it.
Ooh, ouch! I hate that. I just had that happen to me, too, in re: this wonderful Snermione I was assured was completed and then... to be continued. *argh*!
YES, exactly! I've been burned by so many reccers who would rec fics, long fics, but never point out that they're WsIP that either have been abandoned or the last update has been awhile back. Grr!
grrhhh, same here. WIPs are evil. *frustrated*
Amen Sistah! I had a rec the other day to some story that I read for hours and hours and it turned out to be a WIP that was never finished and I was just PISSED when I realized that at the end. I totally hear ya!!! I don't care how good the writing is, please don't rec it if it isn't done or if it won't ever get finished. OR at least SAY it is a WIP. -Clare
