My bank -- M & T bank, just rang me up at home. To tell me that there'd been an overdraught on my chequing account, and to arrange things so that the cheque could be covered, and I would pay no penalties!!!
No, seriously, they totally did! I have never heard of a bank passing up the chance for extra money in the form of overdraft fees, especially in cases like this one, where it was just a matter or having deposited a cheque in the wrong account, and we HAD the money to cover what we'd written! Bank of America would have held us down and financially ass-raped us over a bookkeeping error like that one, not phoned us as soon as the clerk spotted it, and help us avoid the consequences of innattention!
So I don't know who's local enough to make use of this advice, but I can say with a straight face that M & T bank utterly ROCKS!
