Verse Before The Flood -- A call for Artists/ Photographers/ and other visual media artists
So.
Some have been reading of my ongoing wars with the insurance company after the Great Floods of Arisia Weekend. Amoung other things, I have been concerned about meeting the deductible for our homeowner's policy, but in these times of tightened belts and everyone worried about meeting their own bills, I haven't been able to conscience the idea of asking people for gifts or loans of cash.
However, I have come up with a scheme that I hope will work out better for everyone.
I am planning to self-publish an illustrated volume of my poetry, and this post is to open the invitation to all of the visual media artists on my flist; If you think you might have time/inclination to donate a black and white illustration of one of my poems -- no matter your style or technique, so long as it is reproducible in 2D, monochrome, and reducable to 5x7, I'd love to be able to include it. The donation would be of first printing rights only. You'd retain the original for sale, or colouration, or reprinting, or whatever you'd like. Also, all artists who contribute will get copies of the volume, and if the silly thing sells reasonably well, I'll even be paying -- although delayed, -- for the rights at some point.
What I'm asking for is a donation of a bit of your time, really. There are already several people who have tapped in, and I've got some of the drawings in hand already, but when I first mentioned needing artists for the project, it was kind of buried halfway down a longer post, and I've heard from several friends that they didn't see it at all when first I tossed out the call.
So this is meant to be a clearer call. If you can, and can spare the time, please take a look at the list of poems, and see if there's something that speaks to you?

In order for me to have some time to get the result printed, and enough sold to make a dent in my deductible, I'll need to get this moving along pretty soon, so please don't be shy about speaking up if you've time or inclination to help with it. I seriously could use it just now. Also; it's my hope and expectation that this volume's illustrations should be ecclectic, unexpected, and a wonderful patchwork of styles and media, so please don't talk yourself out of speaking up on account of self doubt. Please.
If you're one of those who've already opted in, please just consider this me touching base with you, and asking how you're coming along. What have you chosen? How is it fitting into your schedule? Just a couple words of where you're at will help me over here with the planning side of things.
And finally, if there's an artist with whom I should be talking about this, but who isn't on my flist, or who hasn't heard of it, PLEASE give me a nudge in their direction, and/or link them over here. Seriously. Begging for networking nudges, I am totally not above -- as my dear friend
