Living with the criminally inclined...

So Mithril's on probation, it seems.

Apparently the hiss-plosion Dominus and I heard while we were waiting for the vet to get him cleaned up and into the crate wasn't a slash-and-run, like we'd thought. No, the bloodied tissue she was clenching to her palm concealed a frigging BITE WOUND instead. I guess he REALLY DID NOT WANT HER FINGER THERE anymore. Poor guy, He hasn't tried to bite me seriously in years now -- not even when I'd inflicted forced-cuddles punishment on him, and made him sing the Hate Song at the top of his lungs.

Today, we got a letter from the New York State Department of Health, letting us know that the attack had been reported, and the cat in question was to be confined indoors for ten days, whereupon a representative from the DoH would be out to assess his condition, check that his rabies vaccination was current, and determine what to do from there.

I'm not all that worried, really. He's current on his jabs, and I can explain his behavior to the satisfaction of anyone who's owned cats before, especially his reaction to the Very Bad Touch the vet was inflicting on him. I feel sorry for her too -- unplugging a full-of-shite cat with PTSD has to be the most thankless job in that whole place. And I don't resent her reporting the incident, either; if anything, I'm glad she did it. It proves to me that this office takes safety seriously. Rennsellaer county has had recent rabies outbreaks in the wildlife -- a martin attacked a woman awhile ago, and some skunks and racoons have turned up rabid around here as well. The vet's office and the NYDoH taking this potential disease vector seriously is a really good thing.

I just can't help imagining my big ol bully boy playing harmonica, and wailing the blues in his cage; songs about prison violation, and what he's gonna do to those filthy screws when he gets the chance...

Doesn't he look just fearsome?
