Reptile brain FAIL!

So I'm feeding the snakes. I dangle Anya's rat, and in her enthusiasm, she strikes!

And misses.

And bites her own neck.

And now she's wrestling herself into submission, no matter how often I dangle the rat in front of her.

I figure the best I can do is leave the rat in the feed box with her, and hope that once she gets her brain around the fact that her prey is NOT fighting her, she'll find it and eat the damned thing.

And I sincerely hope she does not manage to actually hurt herself before the pain in her neck reveals itself to be her own teeth...

OMg, I hope she didn't hurt herself because I will feel really horrible for how hard I'm laughing.
Well, I can't tell yet whether she hurt herself or not. She did let go, though, and was hovering about the feed box in search of a clue, so I opened up the lid, used it to curb her enthusiasm, and snagged the rat's tail to drag it out from underneath her and try again.

She felt it move, and clued right in, snagging it out of the forceps and curling up around it, so I figured I'd take that for the victory it is, and check her out for damage once she's got the damned thing down.
